We win!!!

It has been a very busy golf filled weekend. It started out with a 4-man scramble at the Ponderosa Golf Club in Glyndon. We had a pretty good team on the field, but with poor course conditions, it made for a very long day. I've played on fairways shorter than the greens at that course. As a team, we finished -1. The winning team was -8. Not even close.

Next up was our consolation match for the season long match play event at Rose Creek. For the first time all year, I played as good as I thought I could. I was hitting greens, making putts, and putting pressure on the other team. It was the back 9 holes that it started falling apart. Combine that with the other team making very few mistakes, and it made for an intese last few holes.

Being tied going into the 17th hole of play, everyone had good drives. My partner hit one OB off the tee leaving the rest of the hole up to me. A missed approach shot left me half under a pine tree left of the green. A decent chip left me with about 10 feet for par. It was a par putt I would miss. The other group was able to get up and down and take a 1 up lead going into the final hole.

Now we are under the gun going in to the last hole. 2 great drives by me and my partner, coupled by 2 not so good drives from the opposite team, set us up for a good chance at a comeback. I was able to get to the front edge in 2, with a nice chip for a chance at birdie. My partner, who was about 50 yds further than me, hit a perfect shot to get on it 2. He had about a 30 ft eagle put. The other team made out birdies moot by only mustering a bogey on the hole. Extra innings!

Everyone had almost perfect drives starting out the 19th hole of play. It was 2 almost perfect approach shots by me and my partner that put the icing on the cake.

It was a great round of golf. We had to play in the rain, wind, heat, and sunshine. Hard to complain. We will have to see what the next round has in store for us.
